Roberta Furlanetto
Biography
Roberta Furlanetto , born onthe outskirts of Venice, Italy. Hers is a genuine passion for materials andcolor. Curiosity and a taste for experimentation have led her to a wide rangeof experiences, all of them linked by a fierce need for self-expression. RobertaFurlanetto graduated from l' Accademia di Belle Arte in Milan in 1990. In1992 she completed a maxi canvass using mixed techniques and collage which wascommissioned by an art collector, who later showed her work to ChristianLacroix. Lacroix drew inspiration from this piece and invited Roberta to begincollaborating with him. She began creating exclusive pieces for his HauteCouture Shows. Nina Ricci soon followed suit, then Dior, Ungaro and AzzedineAlaïa. In 2007 Roberta Furlanetto launched her prêt-a-porter collection. Eachpiece is created, developed and constructed on the body. Designed according tovolume, asymmetry, and contrast. Suspended between geometry and pattern. Thepieces are often brought to life with a total absence of seams: shapes aredefined by means of folds, pressing, pleating, or by contact with internalstructures designed to provide invisible support. They are the translation ofan idea, simultaneously artistic and technical. Her approach is minimal andsumptuous, logical, sophisticated but practical and functional.
Roberta Furlanetto assertsthat"... nothing is left to chance in my work". The singularity of Furlanetto'swork does not lie solely in the aesthetic quality of what she creates, but inthe fact that she is able to reproduce its emotional intensity. RobertaFurlanetto works from her atelier and studio in Milan.
